Permanent 3D Nipple & Areola Tattooing
Permanent 3D nipple and areola tattooing is an advanced form of paramedical tattooing designed to restore the appearance of a natural nipple and areola following mastectomy, breast reconstruction, breast surgery or trauma. Using customised pigment blending, advanced colour theory and realistic shading techniques, soft hyper-realistic results can be created to help restore balance, confidence and femininity.
At Pink Lotus Australia, every treatment is individually customised to suit each client’s skin tone, anatomy, scar tissue and healed surgical outcome. Treatments may include bilateral nipple recreation, unilateral nipple matching, areola restoration, colour correction and scar blending.
Permanent nipple tattooing is generally a minimum 2 session process, particularly in areas where scarring, radiation or reconstructed skin is present. Some clients may require additional sessions depending on how the skin heals and retains pigment. Reconstructed skin and flap procedures can behave differently to normal skin due to changes in blood supply, scar tissue and skin texture.
We generally recommend waiting a minimum of 3 months following your last surgery before nipple tattooing can be considered, provided there have been no healing complications. For nipple reconstruction procedures, a longer healing period of approximately 6–12 months is often ideal to allow the reconstruction scar to further mature and settle, however some clients may still be suitable for treatment earlier from the 3 month mark depending on healing progress.
As scars continue to mature over time, nipple reconstruction scars may continue changing for approximately 3–5 years before fully softening and lightening in colour. Because of this, follow-up nipple tattooing sessions or refresh appointments may be recommended in future years as the scar tissue changes and the body naturally metabolises pigment over time.
3D nipple tattoos behave similarly to traditional body art tattoos, where the body slowly breaks down and metabolises pigment particles over the years. Softer flesh tones, pinks and lighter colours generally fade and metabolise faster than darker carbon-based inks, meaning occasional refresh sessions may help maintain colour balance, definition and realism long term.
Please note that there are currently no Medicare rebates available for nipple tattooing services performed by Aleisha Michael at Pink Lotus Australia, as Medicare rebates are generally only applicable when treatments are performed by approved medical providers such as doctors or nurses operating within Medicare guidelines. Aleisha specialises as a medical tattoo artist and national trainer in advanced nipple and paramedical tattooing, educating surgeons, nurses and cosmetic tattooists internationally, however Medicare eligibility is determined by Medicare’s individual provider classifications and regulations.
Pink Lotus Australia is also an Australian Registered Charity with a mission to help support individuals requiring 3D nipple and areola tattooing following breast cancer and reconstructive journeys. We have fundraising games available to download from our site to assist with community fundraisers and support initiatives to help contribute towards our subsidy program and assist eligible clients with treatment costs where possible. If you are wanting to host a fundraising event for PLA or someone specifically please contact us directly!
As subsidy availability depends on current fundraising and charity funds available at the time, clients will be notified on the day of their appointment if any charity funding or treatment assistance is able to be applied towards their session.
